The Great Gift of Charity
Charity is the greatest expression of Love. It is the grace of Christ poured out on the Church, the gift of the Holy Spirit that fills the lives of towns, converting them and creating new communities willing to build the Kingdom of God.
Charity becomes a sacrament, not only through the blessing of couples, but in every moment of life. It is the grace that brings them to life, nourishes, heals, strengthens and stays with them eternally.
Charity becomes a practice of life when it transforms itself into modesty, generosity, commitment, service and faithfulness. When this charity is practiced by everyone until it reaches the needy, that is when we discover the Lord Jesus Christ.
Charity becomes prayer, which reunites us with the merciful God, to implore Him for a restoration of His love in every inhabitant of the planet, so that we show solidarity with those who suffer in body, spirit and human relationships. That prayer becomes a way of bringing peace, happiness and strength to help us through challenges in life and to help us learn from those situations as they occur, in order to better our existence.
Charity becomes unity, when we overcome indifference and superiority complexes and provide freedom to those who are oppressed by a lack of truth and justice. Unity is the fruit of coexistence in diversity.
Charity shines over all the gifts that we could have because it is not about sharing our leftovers with others, feeling pity, fear or suspicion; it is about what comes from our hearts when we welcome the foreigner, serve the needy, comfort the one who suffers, heal the wounded, in order to strengthen our hope of reuniting with God one day; because we love Him through our brothers and sisters, and serve Him when we treat the needy person as one of us.
