Called to Evangelize
In every time and culture, God has called his people to proclaim the Good News to all creation. Saint Paul did this during his time, in his world, traveling to different places and creating new communities of faith that embraced conversion and solidarity. And since then, missionaries of every era have traveled all over our planet, planting the Faith, transforming cultures, and creating in their converts a sense of worshiping God as one people.
Today, baptized people are called to participate in the Catholic Church just as their ancestors were called by St Paul and the missionaries of the past. Along with all the members of the Church, we are the people of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and we are called more than ever to live in community. We have been invited to live in charity as citizens of God’s Kingdom, taking part in the celebration of our Redeemer’s ministry.
Last summer’s pilgrimage of youth to World Youth Day in Australia was a call to evangelization. In the same way, married people are urgently called to be prominent evangelizers in a church where there is respect for life and for consecrated love, as well as for moral and religious values.
The mission of the Church continues with the religious education of children, youth and adults who come to our parishes in search of the sacraments, faith formation and guidance in their Christian vocation: to be part of the Church, to live the missionary spirit and to build the kingdom of God.
Today, the call to evangelization not only reminds us of the past, but acknowledges God’s continuing invitation to know and experience His truth, to build His Kingdom with love and solidarity and to strengthen the hearts of all the faithful.
